Human Rights Issues for Disabled Women (Auckland)

A discussion forum on the human rights issues affecting disabled women Why: The Commission wants you to have your say on the human rights issues facing you and others in the disability community. We will use this forum to inform our reporting to the United Nations on the Women’s Convention (CEDAW) and the Disability Convention (CRPD) later in the year, as we continue to push towards the realisation of all human rights for this community.

The Human Rights Commission is hosting a series of open forum consultations across Aotearoa with women from a range of communities. We know that the human rights issues of employment, healthcare, data, violence and abuse, and poverty affect disabled women. We want to hear from you about your experience with these and other issues. We also want to hear about your proposed solutions and recommendations.

An opportunity to speak and to listen, this hui will be facilitated by the Commission’s disability and women’s rights focused staff. The information we gather about your priority human rights issues will form the basis of our submissions to the United Nations. We want to get as much data from as many people as possible to help us improve the current human rights landscape for all women, including disabled women.

The Commission encourages you to tell the United Nations what you think about the issues affecting you and your communities. This consultation will provide you with tools and information to enable you to participate in the United Nations process through the upcoming reviews in 2018/2019.

This event is free but registration is required for catering purposes. The venue is physically accessible (including an accessible bathroom). If you have any specific access needs (including sign language interpreters) or require any other accessibility information, please email ering@hrc.co.nz
